Can you ship this to an app store?

Installs on a phone, but is not an App Store app

The output is a web app that can be added to a home screen. It cannot be listed in the App Store or Google Play without being repackaged by something else.

Generates React web apps, then packages them in a native WebView shell and produces store files for you to submit through App Store Connect yourself. Content changes ship without a new store review, but it is a wrapper around a web app rather than native code, and thin wrappers draw App Review scrutiny. Store file download needs the Builder plan.

Our Take on Base44

Read our full review

Base44 is the fastest path from a plain-English prompt to a deployed, full-stack app, which makes it a strong pick for non-technical founders and indie hackers. Watch credit consumption: the real cost driver is how many iterations your app needs, not the tier name. Start on Starter at $16/mo, build one real thing, and track usage for a month before upgrading.

Strengths

  • Ships the whole stack from one prompt: frontend, backend, database, auth, and hosting
  • Forever-free tier with 25 message credits per month to test a real idea
  • Native integrations for Gmail, Slack, Stripe, and CRM tools without glue code
  • One-click code export and two-way GitHub sync (GitHub from the Builder plan up)
  • Multi-model support: bring your own OpenAI, Claude, Groq, or Mistral keys
  • Backed by Wix since the 2025 acquisition, and still shipping new features

Limitations

  • Credit-based iteration: complex apps burn message and integration credits fast
  • Heavy relational data or advanced logic can hit the platform ceiling
  • Apps are built on Base44's platform, so moving off takes effort

Best for

Non-technical founders validating an app idea quickly
Indie hackers who want an internal tool without a weekend of setup
Small teams needing custom software with auth and a database but no engineer

Not ideal for

Professional developers who prefer to work in their own codebase
Teams building data-heavy apps with complex relational logic
Anyone who needs to fully own and self-host the stack from day one
